Whats in a name?

The name 35th Parallel didn't come about by accident.  Instead it has quite a bit of meaning...

Selecting the right name for this business was not easy.  There are thousands of adventure travel and tour companies out there and I wanted something that would set us apart from the rest.  After going through all the "adventure" names, none of them felt right.  Then one day with the help of my good friend Sam, we decided to take another tack completely and steer away from the norm.

Looking at the map, and more specifically the places that I've travelled and lived, it quickly became apparent to me that the three places I've lived most of my life (Southern Africa, Australia & New Zealand) are all roughly on the same line of lattitude - you guessed it, 35° South!

The S35° line of lattitude is the closest whole number that almost intersects Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.  Unfortunately it just misses Cape Town by a few miles.  It is however the only line that runs through New Zealand, Australia and so close to Africa.  Any further north and it would miss New Zealand.  And the name 35 degrees 20 minutes Travel didn't sound so good - so 35th Parallel it was!
