Slingshot officially announced their partnership with Aviso Surf this week. Aviso are the leaders in carbon fibre surfboards in the US. After spending a week in Bali recently with John from Aviso and seeing Ben Wilson stoked on his boards, I'm confident carbon fibre boards are going to be popular with kiters... not to mention the fact they look sick!
At US$1400 each, you might be wondering why anyone would part with that much money for a board... Well, there are plenty of reasons:
- these boards are seriously tough... they don't ding easily at all, in fact I didn't see any dings on John's board which he'd been shredding on for a few years!
- they don't get compression dings either! Kiting puts a lot of wear and tear on regular surfboards (mine look old after a couple months), but Aviso's carbon fibre boards stand up to the pressures of kiting easily
- they feel good... Ben rode his new board all week in Bali and was stoked with the way it flexed and felt in the water... he was surprised that it felt just like a regular surfboard
- they're perfect for travelling - how many times have you anxiously waited for your board to come off the plane? Well, worry no more, even the baggage handlers can't break these boards!
